Chance Marsteller (Lock Haven) named EWL Wrestler of the Week

For the second time this season, redshirt junior Chance Marsteller (New Park, PA/Kennard-Dale HS/Oklahoma State) of Lock Haven has been named the EWL Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 7th. Marsteller finished third at 165 pounds at the prestigious Southern Scuffle, held in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 1st and 2nd. Marsteller opened the tournament with a 16-5 major decision victory over Tyler Wiederholt of Air Force, then won by fall in 3:52 over Neal Richards (Unattached from VMI), and picked up a 3-1 decision over Mekhi Lewis (Unattached from Virginia Tech) in the quarterfinals on January 1st. On January 2nd, Marsteller fell 3-2 to Bryce Steiert (unattached from Northern Iowa), but rebounded to beat Ebed Jarrell of Drexel 10-5 in the consolation semifinals, and then picked up his second victory of the tournament over Mekhi Lewis, this time by 6-4 decision in the third-place match. Marsteller came into the week ranked #7 in the nation at 165 pounds by InterMat, #8 by The Open Mat, and #11 by FloWrestling. With his 5-1 this week, he is now 24-1 this season. Marsteller did not compete last season, however, he did go 6-5 in 2015-16 while wrestling for Oklahoma State, and 14-4 in 2014-15 while wrestling unattached.
